There is such a thing as bad publicity. Take a photo of your CEO or your partner when they are in Hoff mode or equivalent, tag them on Facebook and see how successful that is for the both of you.
Publicity can be a really useful tool though. It brings to the public products/services/brands/causes that may have otherwise been floundering in the land of No One Knows.
It can also be discriminatory and manipulative. The guy with the most money gets his product shouted the loudest. The broke guy at the back with the killer product doesn’t.
The rich guy sells plenty, the broke guy has to work harder. And we go ahead and buy the one with the most noise.
And then we add to the ruckus. We haven’t tried an alternative but the one we bought is the best. Even ask us.
Just a thought.
